“Arafa nafsahu faqad ‘arafa rabbahu—
Whoever discovers their self discovers their Sustainer.
Today, a prayer-
A simple supplication-
Thy Will Be Done.
I stand trusting, not with anxious expectation
Or fear or trepidation,
The patient way the wind puffs the brown oak leaf
Over the long course of the yard,
And nestles it with other along the fence.
Piece by piece,
I set up the masks and veils of myself
Around a common table,
And promise not to laugh,
When “we” drop such artifice away-
So many oak leaves, drifted together,
And every one, a face of God.
