Al-Mujib: Ears that Hear

Why do we slow down and watch
the heron, balanced one-legged,
her long bill pulled in,
the rain pearling the gray of her back?
The waves pool and part around her,
restless, ebbing and
there
she
stands
on holy ground.
Perhaps we are reminded of those few
rare and precious times
when someone stood with us,
still,
balanced,
and folded into the atmosphere
with tea steam and apple slices,
nods, eye-to-eye,
not fixing anything,
not forcing anything,
not wanting anything,
embodying the ancient art
of
generative
listening.
