Al-Mudhill: The Fragmented

If we learn only one thing in meditation
I pray it is to see that all things hug at last--
the fatigue,
the meanness,
the looping obsessions of the brain
touching all our broken pieces
over and over until our inner fingers bleed.
If you find fragmentation,
if you discover discontinuity,
if you bump up against the imperfect
the hidden,
the shameful,
then understand here, in this quiet,
from many such dirt-embrace roots
a glorious cedar tree rises,
unified for a time
until breaking again into the thousand branches
of praise.
