Al-Hafiz: Guardian of the Center

You keep a Secret inside,
whispered into your ear
in a language before breath.
It spilled out into you,
all of you,
oiling the movements of life with
compassion, with awareness,
with cherishing and being cherished.
Yes, you will stumble.
Yes, you will flare up and Become
intellectual or angry and frightened,
there is always a pointing inward
in such tides,
and you will hear
a water-pounded boulder,
footed into bedrock,
waiting and eager to be grasped.
Press your ear there
stable, held,
and whisper
the preserver
the guardian
of the center.
