Al-‘Adl: The Great Balancer

These late summer days,
I actually shake my fist at the sun—
I am one
who loves the misty, meditative cool,
no shadows cast,
and the daydreaming mind can create
velociraptors starring golden-eyed
behind fern-cover.
So for today,
the antidote and corrective:
a simple poem and a simple prayer—
may I trust in the balance of the looping swing
of seasons,
the way moon and sun and earth all bow to each other,
palm to palm
and dance the perfectly imperfect circles
of a larger perspective.
