Pass it On; A poem

Pass it On

Have you ever received
one of those
“pass this on to twelve other people”
emails?

I squirm when I get them.

Not because the intent isn’t good.
Not because reaching out,
social cohesion
and
positive thinking
aren’t all wonderful,
but
I’m working on something
small and sort of tight in my chest-
can I just sit with you, Beloved,
and notice the long grass in the lawn,
the cedar droppings on the porch,
the garden weeds and faded blooms
and be willing
to just be still with you?
I want that to be the greatest action
I take today,
because that’s something
I
can
pass
on.
